MBBS in Georgia 2026-27 – Complete Guide for Indian Students

Everything Indian students need to know before applying for MBBS in Georgia this academic year.

Studying MBBS in Georgia has become one of the top choices for Indian medical aspirants. Georgia, a country at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, offers NMC-approved, WHO-recognised medical degrees fully taught in English at a fraction of the cost of private Indian colleges. The country follows the European Bologna Process of education. The degree awarded is an MD (Physician), equivalent to an MBBS in India. Graduates are eligible to appear for the NExT/FMGE exam and practice in India, or pursue USMLE/PLAB for practice in the USA or UK. Royal Glo Next Academy (based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu) is a direct MBBS admission office with over 17 years of experience, having enrolled more than 1,200 students into Georgian medical universities including European University Tbilisi and Kutaisi University.

Choosing a country for medical education is a major decision for any student and family. It is not only about the tuition fee. Students and parents need to look at the university, quality of education, clinical training, admission requirements, accommodation, living expenses, safety, and the rules that apply when the student returns to India.

For Indian students considering MBBS abroad, Georgia has become one of the countries worth researching because of its established medical education system and the availability of English-medium medical programmes.

MBBS in Georgia is a six-year, English-medium medical programme (awarded as an MD in Georgia) with tuition that is a fraction of Indian private-college fees and no donation or capitation payment. Most Indian students pay roughly ₹2–6 lakh per year in tuition plus ₹20,000–30,000 a month for hostel, food and transport.

That is the attractive half of the story. The other half matters just as much to your family: on 7 October 2026, the NMC clarified that a foreign medical graduate needs a licence to practise medicine in the country of study, at par with that country’s own graduates, to be eligible for FMGE. “Junior doctor” status alone may not be enough. We explain exactly what this means in the NMC licence section below. Please read it before you pay any fee to any university or consultancy, including us.

At Royal Glo Next Academy, we help students and parents understand the admission process, compare suitable universities and prepare the documents required for admission and travel.

If you are considering MBBS in Georgia for the 2026-27 intake, this guide explains the important points you should understand before making a decision.

Why Study MBBS in Georgia?

Georgia consistently ranks among the top destinations for MBBS abroad for Indian students here’s why.

Georgia has developed a strong international student community, and its medical universities offer medical education to students from different countries.

One of the main reasons Indian students consider Georgia is the availability of medical programmes taught in English at several institutions. Georgia also follows the European higher-education framework, and its medical education system is subject to national authorization and accreditation requirements.

According to information published by the Embassy of Georgia in India, undergraduate medical programmes in Georgia are six years in duration and include internship training during the sixth year.

However, students should not select a university simply because it is located in Georgia. The individual university and programme should be checked carefully before admission.

MBBS in Georgia Without NEET: What Is Allowed and What Is Not

Many Georgian universities can admit a student without a NEET score, but an Indian student who wants to practise in India needs NEET qualification before admission. Without it, you are not eligible to appear for the FMGE screening test under NMC rules.

So “MBBS in Georgia without NEET” can be technically possible and still be the wrong choice for most Indian families. Before you accept an offer that says “no NEET required”, ask these three questions in writing:

  1. Will my degree be accepted by the NMC for FMGE eligibility if I join without NEET?
  2. Who will bear the cost if the NMC refuses to recognise my qualification?
  3. Is there a refund policy if I cannot continue because of this?

If you are not planning to practise in India (for example, you plan to practise in Georgia or another country), the NEET requirement may not apply to you. In that case, check the licensing rules of the country where you want to work.

Low Tuition Fees

Annual fees of ₹2–6 lakhs, much lower than private colleges in India. Total course cost: ₹25–35 lakhs including living expenses.

100% English Medium

The entire 5-year MBBS program and 1-year internship are conducted fully in English no Georgian language requirement.

NMC & WHO Approved

30+ Georgian universities are approved by India's NMC and the WHO, ensuring your degree is valid to practice in India.

Clinical Exposure from Year 4

Students get hands-on clinical training in hospitals from the 4th year, with an ideal student-to-patient ratio.

No Entrance Exam

No separate university entrance test required. Admission is merit-based using Class 12 PCB marks + NEET qualification.

Easy Access from India

Multiple daily flights from India to Tbilisi. Short travel time and strong Indian community in Georgian cities.

Safe Country

Georgia ranks 22nd globally on the 2025 Numbeo Safety Index one of the safest countries for international students.

Global Recognition

Degrees are recognised by WHO, NMC, ECFMG (USA), FAIMER, and WFME opening doors worldwide.

Top NMC-Approved Medical Universities in Georgia

Georgia has a number of universities and higher-education institutions offering medical education.

However, students should not treat every university in Georgia as automatically suitable for Indian students.

All universities listed below are recognised by NMC India and the WHO.

Compared to private MBBS colleges in India (₹60–1.5 Crores total), Georgia is significantly more affordable with internationally recognised degrees.

There is no single fee that applies to every medical university in Georgia.

For this reason, students should compare the complete cost of education, rather than choosing a university only because its advertised tuition fee is low.

At Royal Glo Next Academy, we help students understand the university-specific fee structure and the additional expenses that need to be considered before admission.

How to Choose the Best Medical University in Georgia

There is no single university that is automatically the best choice for every student.

A student with a particular budget may have different priorities from another student.

When comparing universities, look at:

1. Academic Programme

Understand the curriculum, teaching methodology and duration of the programme.

2. Clinical Training

Ask where students receive clinical training and how the practical component is structured.

3. Language

Confirm the language used for teaching and understand the language requirements during clinical exposure.

4. Total Cost

Calculate tuition, accommodation, food, travel and other expenses.

5. University Status

Check the current status of the university and medical programme through reliable official sources.

6. Indian Regulatory Requirements

Do not make a decision without checking the requirements applicable to Indian students and foreign medical graduates.

7. Student Support

Consider accommodation, airport assistance, local support and communication with parents.

Is MBBS in Georgia Valid in India? Read This First

Indian students who study medicine abroad must meet the FMGL (Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate) Regulations, 2021. In practice this means:

  1. A valid NEET qualification before admission.
  2. A primary medical qualification from a recognised foreign institution listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, with a course of the required length and an internship.
  3. Passing the FMGE (the screening test) in India, then completing the compulsory internship requirement and registering with the State Medical Council.
  4. Regulation 4(b): the graduate must hold a licence to practise medicine in the country where the degree was earned, at par with the licence given to that country’s own citizens.

The October 2026 clarification. In reply to a grievance, the NMC stated that “Junior Doctor” status satisfies Regulation 4(b) only if it legally permits practice at the required level. If independent practice in Georgia is permitted only after postgraduate certification, junior-doctor status alone would not satisfy the regulation, and the matter is to be decided under Georgian law and licensing rules. (PTI via ThePrint, 7 Oct 2026)

What Georgia says. The Embassy of Georgia has stated that graduates of accredited MD programmes can be employed as junior doctors under Georgia’s medical-practice framework. Separately, a 2022 advisory from India’s embassy covering Georgia said that independent practice requires the National Post-Diploma Qualification Examination (NPDQE), taken in the Georgian language, followed by postgraduate residency and an independent-practice licence.

What this means for you:

  • Do not accept a verbal assurance from any consultant, including ours. Ask for the university’s and the Georgian regulator’s written position on independent-practice licensing for international graduates.
  • Check the latest notices on nmc.org.in in your admission year and again before graduation.
  • Keep a realistic Plan B: Georgian residency, or other countries’ licensing routes, in case the Indian requirement affects your batch.

At Royal Glo Next Academy we share the current regulatory position with every family before any fee is collected, and we update this page whenever the rules change.

FMGE and NExT: What the Pass Rate Really Looks Like

Parents rightly ask about FMGE pass percentage. Here is what the official numbers say:

  • In the June 2026 FMGE, 4,635 of 37,448 candidates qualified, an overall pass rate of about 12.4%. (Medical Dialogues)
  • The health ministry told Parliament that the overall June 2026 figure was 12.78%, while the pass rate for first-time candidates was over 35%. (Careers360)
  • The FMGE is a screening test across all countries. Pass rates vary widely by university, so ask any university for its last three years of documented FMGE results, not a headline percentage.

Students joining in 2026 may face the NExT exam, which the NMC has proposed to replace FMGE. Its timeline has changed before, so check the NMC website for the current position rather than relying on a fixed year.

Our advice: the students who clear the screening test are those who study clinically relevant content from year one. Choose a university for its teaching and hospital exposure, not for the lowest fee.

Safety, Hostels and Food for Indian Students

Safety. No country is risk-free, so we recommend practical checks instead of slogans: hostel security and curfew rules, distance from the university, local transport, emergency contacts and a university international-student office that responds to parents. Students should follow local laws and keep documents secure.

Hostels. Royal Glo works with hostels for students in Georgia: Aura Hostel for Men and Oda Hostel for Women. Before confirming, ask about room occupancy, kitchen access, internet, heating and laundry.

Food. Indian food is available in larger cities such as Tbilisi, and many students cook in hostel kitchens. Expect a different climate and food culture too, and plan for it.

Language. Teaching is in English, but you will meet Georgian-speaking patients in clinical years. Learning basic Georgian helps clinical rotations and day-to-day life.

Eligibility Criteria for MBBS in Georgia

Can Indian Students Return to India After Studying MBBS in Georgia?

Indian students planning to return to India must understand the applicable rules for foreign medical graduates.

The National Medical Commission states that foreign undergraduate medical qualifications are governed by the applicable regulations, including the FMGL Regulations, and that foreign medical graduates must fulfil the relevant requirements for registration in India.

There is also an important current development that every 2026 applicant should understand.

On October 7, 2026, reporting on an NMC clarification stated that a foreign medical graduate needs the appropriate licence to practise medicine in the country where the qualification was obtained for FMGE eligibility; the NMC specifically discussed the meaning of “Junior Doctor” status in Georgia.

At the same time, the Embassy of Georgia has stated that graduates of accredited MD programmes can be employed as junior doctors under Georgia’s medical-practice framework.

Because this area is important and regulations can change, students should obtain the latest regulatory position before admission and again before graduation.

Royal Glo Next Academy recommends that students verify the current NMC requirements and the applicable Georgian licensing requirements before making a final university decision.
